And Just Like That on HBO Max isn’t quite like anything we’ve seen before from the vaults of its originator, the long-running, beloved staple — Sex and the City. And those sentiments have dominated online discussions accompanying each new episode of the limited series that made its highly-anticipated debut in early December.

Almost immediately, the lukewarm reception to the grand return of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and Miranda Hobbes was heightened by the uncomfortably loud absence of Kim Cattrall. The mightily talented British/Canadian actress blessed viewers with the sexual exploits of the irreplaceable Samantha Jones until her final bow in the disastrous Sex and the City 2.

Samantha deserved a more dignified exit from the iconic franchise she helped anchor into the cultural zeitgeist than the disappointing and offensive storyline from the ill-fated sequel that shamed the menopausal spasms of “ a woman of a certain age.”

But Cattrall’s controversial departure from the series that made her a household name is embedded in the real-life complexities that plague our professional and personal relationships that often remain unresolved.
