Why Should We Protect Others At The Expense Of Our Wellbeing?

During the darkest months of the nationwide lockdown, due to the fieriness of COVID-19 ravaging ailing states across the country, it was hard not to be gripped with fear of the unknown in the face of death and destruction.

The abrupt end to life as we knew it took a heavy toll, and that burden was exacerbated for sufferers of mental illness who were suddenly thrust into isolation and the intensified, ongoing battle with their demons.

It was also during this time of quarantining and social distancing that messaging about mental health began to gain traction as outspoken celebrities utilized their platforms as centers of information for followers who are in dire straits and desperately in need of a virtual hug.

Hopefully once the tally of the extensive damage that a global pandemic exacted on the US is completed, there will also be accurate data serving as proof of how many lives were lost from the direness of accommodating an infectious climate that left them susceptible to the deadliness of their chronic disease.

For those of us who have weathered the symptoms of depression long enough to understand why its a lifelong battle for survival, being able to see some glimpses of light at the end of the tunnel inevitably forces the reconciliation with inescapable…
