Why Mayor Lori Lightfoot Is Shaking Up White Media

Looks like Lori Lightfoot, who is celebrating her two-year anniversary as the entrenched Mayor of the Windy City will be dwelling in her embattled status for a little longer after her latest declaration.

There are certainly times when my side-eyeing of Lightfoot’s assessment of episodes of blatant police brutality is warranted and supported by likeminded critics, but this brewing controversy over her spotlighted remarks about City Hall press corps and Chicago media as a whole is right on the money.

Mayor Lightfoot said what she said!

It’s music to my ears to hear the Black woman who made history as the first of her kind to win the coveted mayoral position, that most have tried and failed at, boldly make stipulations about which outlets will be granted one-on-one interviews, during coverage of her noteworthy two-year mark.

The Mayor’s unapologetic stance about only wanting to host journalists of color which she shared in a series of tweets that didn’t stutter in delivery has expectedly ruffled the feathers of usual suspects, who can only attract valuable but fleeting attention by riling up the fiery #MAGA cult.
