We Need To Talk About The Abuse of Black Women By Cops

I’m fucking angry right now. I’m also tired of being the “angry Black woman” who has to constantly spew out all the obvious reasons why I have to remain angry.

I don’t enjoy being this way — and to be completely honest it’s quite exhausting and unhealthy to constantly endure the daily assault of images — that serve as evidence of why you might be better off returning to your shithole country.

As a Nigerian-American — it’s fair to assume that I’m basically screwed.

I can’t enjoy a decent existence in a country that loses school girls to a Jihadist militant cell — that has been successfully terrorizing the Northern region of Nigeria for almost a decade. And I can’t blissfully dwell in a country that was founded on the principle of systematic imprisonment — that aims to cripple people of color — who are already behind bars before they’re officially locked up.

It’s assumed that Black men have a far worse experience at the hands of the law — that was instituted for their rapid extinction.

As social media becomes the tool of awareness and the preferred method of capturing and sharing criminal acts — in real time — we’ve become accustomed to the ultra-violent videos that don’t dilute the bloodiness of death at the hands of thugs in uniform — who don’t give a damn about the crying toddler in the back seat — who just witnessed the unimaginable.

At first it was informative and very necessary to be tasked with sifting through the numerous testimonies that showcase the horror of what it means to be Black in America.

The conversations that were rarely initiated back when diversity was a dirty word — suddenly dominate the culture — as White people have to contend with the removal of denial — and finally admit that they won the lottery when it comes to enjoying the luxury of humane treatment.

But — it’s only natural for the mind to adjust to the never-ending recordings of screams and gasps for breath with the ever reliant presence of cops — who are purposely exacting serious harm on the ones they deem less than human.

We know that Black people are treated like utter shit because we hear about how they get thrown out of establishments in
