It’s not that odd when you consider how defensive people get when they’re faced with hard truths. As a person of color — I’m forced to be considerate and examine every angle. I’m trained to accommodate a level of intolerance that disciplines your way of thinking and gives you a much wider perspective.

I don’t expect the people that label me a “racist” to be empathetic or even attempt to imagine what it’s like for others who don’t have the second chances they take for granted.

I don’t take it personally and I actually view their responses with a level of fascination.

It’s reminder of how much more work needs to be done. Definitely won’t live to see a marked improvement — but I do believe we will get there.
