If Beale Street Could Talk was a gorgeous film that explored the challenges in the community that are still activated today, and it’s very telling that Green Book with all the controversy stemming from the blatant inaccuracies that were confirmed by the family of Dr. Don Shirley, managed to be the Black movie that appealed to the Academy and White audiences.

There are certain narratives that make the cut based on themes that uplift White characters at the expense of Black characters, so that’s what I mean when I say that Beale Street was laid to rest.
