I absolutely don’t harbor any hatred towards White people or White women for that matter. Thank you so much for reading my work. I’m sure it can’t be easy to digest what I have to say without feeling targeted but I assure you that my reasons for the way I deliver my truth are wrapped up in the ugliness that surrounds people of color daily.
It’s uncomfortable for White people to be faced with the truth of the privilege that protects them as much as the dire exposure Black people are subjected to — leaves us vulnerable to the elements.
As a writer I try to lend my voice to victims like Sandra Bland who died in a manner that would have matched mine if I had been in her situation. And Diamond Reynolds who was subjected to the unimaginable.
I realize that there is no way you can comprehend what it’s like to be me — just like I can’t quite fathom what it’s like to be able to exist without constantly proving why your presence is valuable enough to keep you alive.
I could express myself in a manner that isn’t quite as potent but then the message is covered under the facade that doesn’t quite do enough justice to the ones who died needlessly and the ones who are poised to suffer the exact same fate.
I don’t enjoy curating pieces about the racial divide that continues to cripple us but I also can’t stop detailing why it’s pertinent that White people continue to empathize through the discipline of listening and absorbing.
I can’t expect this favor with each reader — but I have encountered enough goodwill to know that I will never be disappointed.
Thanks again for expressing your thoughts. They are valid to you and I accept what you have to say with respect and reflection.
Here’s something I wrote awhile back that I hope sheds some light on my unrelenting motivation.
